And here are the last of the screenshots…
The Dress Carolyn never got to wear.
On the day of her death carolyn went shopping for a dress for the wedding in Hyanis Port. The dress she bought was an Yves Saint Lauret Rive Gauche Ready to Wear fall 1999/2000 one shoulder black dress. After some research i have collected all the images i can of the dress.Although we never saw Carolyn in the dress i thought you might be intrested in posting the images. If you would like them i would be happy to send them to you.
Thank you for offering to post the images! I only have the one article with a photo of the dress on the model, but it was in black and white. Do you think you could upload the photos to Photobucket or Tinypic and post the link in this thread? Then I could make a new post.
Or if you’re on the Facebook page, maybe you could post it there? I know everyone would have loved to see it. I love YSL. 😀
Here is the link to the photobucket page i have posted the photos on.
I can imagine Carolyn wearing the dress with her hair up and with minimal make up but bright red lips.
If you can find the article with the black and white picture in could you please post it.Thanks.
One last thing, thank you so much for posting all these images over the past few months, this website is an amazing memorial to Carolyn.
Thank you, Anna! I do have the article and it’s scheduled to post in the next couple of weeks. I included your photos too. Thank you so much for putting them up for everyone to see. It was a beautiful dress.
I would be glad to see pics of the dress!!!! Thank you Anna 🙂
OMG – the dress was wonderful!!!!!
Wow, thank you BOTH so much. I was always curious about the dress she picked out on short notice, before her last night. It is a beautiful choice, so daring to wear black to a wedding. LOVE IT!!!
Thank you for the pics, Anna!!!
But one question always bothered me (already with the dress Carolyn wore to Christiane Amanpour’s wedding): isn’t it a no-go to wear black to a wedding? I have never been to a wedding myself, so I’m seriously wondering about that.
I went to several wedding in the last years and there were many female guests wearing black dresses. Nowadays it is no problem to wear black on weddings, at least in europe. I guess its an old rule to avoid black on weddings.
But im wondering about the long sleeve too. At that time in July 1999 was a heatwave.
@ Anna Martin – how did you get the information about the YSL dress???
I read an article in a magazine and it stated that this was the dress she bought at the last minute. It also included a picture of this dress but only one.
I have a feeling that even though it was a summer wedding she was in such a rush to purchase something that she just grabbed the first thing she liked, and the dress does seem very Carolyn.
The dress is really beautiful and would have looked wonderful on Carolyn, however I remember hearing that the dress was lavender, not black, as she was getting her nails painted to match her dress and needed the perfect shade. Was this the dress for the wedding? Also, wouldn’t it have been a little too warm to wear long sleeves in the summer, even though the material is light?
